HSA Turtle Bay
Cool north winds made for a chilly morning at this weekend's Event #10 at Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku. Boys Short Board 11U kicked off the competition seeing Matteus Santos and Nalu Deodato come out on top. Luke Tema stood out by picking off the best waves all morning but came up short in the finals.
It was nice to see some new girls enter the mix with Kailua natives Remy Higgins (SB 11U), and Summer Johnson (SB 12-13). Cali-Maui-Oahu transfer Erin Brooks impressed in multiple divisions with an aggressive mindset. Sitting deepest and not being afraid of a late takeoff earned her 1st in SB 11U and 2nd in SB 12-13 behind "Shreddy Lou" Sakura Johnson.
Longboard divisions were a little thin with many of our young ladies overseas competing in the Noosa Festival of Surfing. Mahina Akaka's wave selection earned her the win over Haley Otto. Points earned will shake up the season standings in the competitive girls LB division as Mahina and Haley move up a few spots.
On the boys side it was easy sliding into 1st for Ethan Speltz. It was a great display of confident board control without his rival and best friend Kaniela Stewart to surf against. Also Jack Ho didn't show up until the 5 min warning which also helped (apparently caught in traffic).
